Hymn 609 - Wake, Awake, For Night Is Flying

Join us for a study of "Wake, Awake, For Night Is Flying" (Hymn 609 in The Lutheran Hymnal) by German pastor and hymn writer, Philipp Nicolai.

This hymn is based largely on Jesus' parable of the 10 Virgins as well as a number of references to descriptions of heaven from Revelation. As Nicolai was confronted with tragedy and death in his life and ministry, he turned to God and His promises in Christ for comfort and assurance. It was with these precious promises that He also comforted the flock that he was called to serve, with the reminder that we need to be ready, for we don't know when our Savior will return, or call us to our heavenly home. 

Study this hymn with us, as we are reminded of the joy which is our now, and which will be ours forever, as we are united with our Savior in eternity!
